The Biggest Event Photography Myth (Wedding Photographer)

The myth is easy to believe, widespread, convincing (to begin with), and widely granted as fact.  The myth is bizarrely self-perpetuating.  The myth persists.

Of course, it is a myth.  So, it is patently not true.

According to the pervasive mistake, you do not want to employ  a professional photographer at major life events, like weddings, large get togethers, and the like.  The myth purports that:

1. Mom's college roommate has a brand new Hazzy SLR that cost $7000 and is used by amazing  fashion photographers in Amsterdam (which has to be uttered in a northern Tennessee drawl).  So, employing a professional wedding photographer is redundant, because surely images of an immense caliber will be taken, almost without intent; or

2. Photographers make way too much considering the work sometimes put forth.  They get to hang out at a wedding, make faces, play with their lighting equipment, and still charge $120 an hour?  The images that are captured - accidentally - then amazingly leap in to a computer, are processed, the RAW is adjusted, tweaked appropriately, and so on.

There are more facets to the lie.  You have heard it from your aunt, their acquaintance, and that guy at the fast food place behind the counter.  In your heart of hearts, though, you know it to be patently untrue.  (You probably will not convince them if you decide to engage the enemy, nonetheless.  Those who hold this belief do so forgetting all hesitation.)

Fortunately, a simple counter argument is as follows:

Do you think this even is important?  Is remembering this event important to you?  Will hiring a quality photographer - an artist - going to help you remember this event?

As you can no doubt see to be clear, you will undoubtedly answer all the above questions in the affirmative.  So, hiring an artist like a wedding photographer will - at the end of the day - be a acceptably reasonable expenditure, certainly given the overall cost of a wedding.  The most important thing is to use a great resource to find your photographer, like Top 5 Wedding Photographers, who can capture the memories for a reasonable cost.

Moreover, employing a great photographer will (certainly) surprise you regarding the substantial quality difference between the typical snapshot picture for fun and a well-crafted picture.  The former is a decent way to remember your friend in Vienna after what will always be known as the 'fettucini incident.'  The latter is a superb way to remember your groom on the day of your wedding, 34 years later.  For a sample of great photos, see this article on wedding photographers.

It is your wedding photography.  Don't fall for the lie.  Don't buy a word of it.
